City Council Seat to Open as Mayor-Elect Expected to Step Down by Year’s End

Park City, Utah – Park City Municipal will open an application process to fill an upcoming vacancy on the City Council following the election of Councilmember Ryan Dickey to the office of Mayor. Dickey has indicated he plans to formally resign from the City Council shortly after the December 18 meeting. The resignation will officially create a vacancy on the City Council.

Utah state law establishes a defined timeline and public process for filling midterm municipal vacancies. Once the vacancy occurs, the City Council will have 30 calendar days to appoint a qualified resident to serve the remainder of Dickey’s term, which expires in January 2028. State code also requires the City to provide at least 14 calendar days of public notice before the City Council interviews candidates and makes the appointment.

The application window is expected to open by December 23, with applications accepted through January 5.

Applicants must be registered Park City voters, maintain a primary residence within City limits, and have lived in Park City for at least 365 days prior to appointment. After the application period closes, the City Council will conduct interviews with all qualified applicants during an open, public meeting (exact dates and times to be determined). The Council will then appoint a candidate to fill the remainder of the unexpired term.

More details and application materials will be posted online as they become available at parkcity.gov.
