We’re excited to rebrand and refresh our youth hockey development pathway at the Park City Ice Arena. Our Hockey Academy is structured to guide young athletes through a progressive series of classes designed to build foundational skating and hockey skills in a fun, supportive environment.
Hockey 1–4 classes will be offered Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 4:30 p.m.
Mini Pucksters will continue to be offered Saturdays at 10:00 a.m.
Hockey 1: Introduction to Hockey Fundamentals
Recommended Ages: 3–5 (who have completed Mini Pucksters) and 6–12 (first-time players)
Hockey 1 is the ideal starting point for young skaters new to the game. This class focuses on foundational skating skills, including marching, standing, sitting, walking, balance, and agility (the ABCs of skating). Skaters will be introduced to the hockey stance and develop basic techniques such as one- and two-foot glides, forward strides, sliding, inside and outside edge awareness, and the snowplow stop.
Hockey 2: Skating Advancement & Stick Introduction
Recommended Ages: 6–12
Designed for skaters who have completed Hockey 1 or possess equivalent skating ability, Hockey 2 continues the development of stride efficiency and edge control. Students will work on forward C-cuts, refine their stopping techniques, and begin to incorporate hockey-specific elements like stick handling and puck control.
Hockey 3: Intermediate Hockey Skills
Recommended Ages: 6–12
Hockey 3 is for players who have progressed through Hockey 1 and 2 and are building toward participation in organized youth hockey (e.g., Ice Miners or similar programs). Emphasis is placed on backward skating (glides, strides, C-cuts), more advanced edge work, and expanded stick handling, puck control, and shooting skills.
Hockey 4: Game-Ready Development
Recommended Ages: 6–12
The final step in our Hockey Academy progression, Hockey 4 prepares skaters for cross-ice and full-ice game play. Players will refine their skating and puck skills in competitive drills and game-like scenarios, including 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and small-area games. This class reinforces team play and decision-making in a dynamic environment.
