Homestake Road Improvements
Beginning spring/summer 2025, crews will work to rebuild Homestake Road from Kearns Boulevard to Park Avenue. The new road will feature a 12' multi-use pathway, 6' sidewalk, and parking improvements.
This project is designed to make the area safer for pedestrians and cyclists, improve connectivity, and enhance and beautify the road in anticipation the EngineHouse Development's completion, as well as the Bonanza Park Redevelopment.
Timeline
2018 | Discussions began regarding the transformation of Homestake Road (to align with Bonanza Park area’s redevelopment vision at the time). Discussions included improvements to Munchkin Road, Woodbine Way, and Homestake Road.
May 2018 | The City Council approved a Design Professional Services agreement, which initiated engineering design services for the extension of Munchkin Road to Homestake Road.
December 2021 | Navigating uncertainties around Recycle Utah's relocation, the design effort was refocused to prioritize improvements to Homestake Road while the Arts and Culture District was further evaluated.
2022 | The City’s Bonanza Small Area Plan and Feasibility Study for the 5-acre parcel, formerly known as the Arts and Culture District begin and include discussions of enhancements on Homestake.
2023 | EngineHouse Development was approved by City Council and construction began.
2023 | Homestake Road waterline was replaced from Kearns Boulevard to Park Avenue.
2024 | The storm drain system was improved. These improvements were essential to meet the growing demands in the Bonanza Park area and on the system.
2025 | Crews began rebuilding Homestake Road in the spring, from Kearns Boulevard to Park Avenue. Work is expected to be complete by fall 2025.
