Project Timeline

The project will take place over two summers.

Phase I: Fall of 2025 to Spring/Summer of 2026

  • August 2025 | Work to install some conduit and two vaults, one on Boot Hill and one on Woodbine Way, was completed.
  • April 7-12, 2026: Traffic control is set up on Kearns Blvd. to install conduit from Boot Hill into the two-way left turn-lane (TWLTL). One lane of eastbound traffic will be allowed. All westbound traffic will be diverted at the intersection of Kearns Blvd. and Bonanza Drive to the detour route.
  • April 13-17, 2026: Traffic control is set up on Kearns Blvd. to install conduit from Woodbine Way into the TWLTL on Kearns. One lane of westbound traffic will be allowed. All eastbound traffic will be diverted at the intersection of Park Avenue and Kearns Boulevard to the detour route.
  • April 20-May 15: Kearns Blvd. will be one lane of traffic for eastbound and westbound vehicles from 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. All work will occur in the TWLTL with occasional lane closures.
  • May 18-22: Repaving of Kearns Blvd.
  • July 2026: Excavation moves to Woodbine Way for conduit installation to the final vault and tying together into the substation.
  • August/September: Work within and adjacent to the substation will occur.
  • October 2026: Clean-up and demobilization of the construction site is scheduled for mid- to late October, marking Phase I completion.

Phase II: Fall of 2026 to Spring of 2027

  • This phase will tie in the new route to the existing infrastructure, remove old towers and lines, and bring the new underground lines into service. The project will be completed in late spring of 2027.

Route (Map Below)

Existing overhead line leaves the Park City substation, travels through the Bonanza Park site, through the cemetery, and along Boot Hill (purple). This project will underground the lines within the substation, beneath Woodbine Way and Kearns Blvd., adjacent to the cemetery, and tie back into the overhead lines on Boot Hill (orange).

This new alignment has the following community benefits:

  • Additional cemetery plots
  • Lowers wildfire risk
  • Removes transmission lines and towers from view corridor
  • Removes 60-foot aerial restriction from Bonanza Park redevelopment site
